Aaron Payne Reconciliation Round
Aaron Payne Reconciliation Round
4th June 2019
Ignatius Park College is set to host the next round of the Aaron Payne Cup today at the Ignatius Park College Oval at noon. The crowd on the Mound will be filled with the blue and white of Iggy young men, barracking for the Townsville side against the Mackay St Patrick’s College. Whilst the visiting team is no stranger to playing the hard hitting First XIII, it will be the opening ceremony with its chants and music of Indigenous dance that will set the scene for the home side.
The Ignatius Park Indigenous Dancers will perform in front of the crowd to demonstrate the Indigenous heritage of our community for this the Reconciliation Round of Football. The boys of Ignatius Park College will suit up in the Indigenous Jersey as shown in the photo enclosed.
The Reconciliation Round for the Aaron Payne Cup is the fifth game of the Cup with the Grand Final to be played in August. The Cup is held in high regard by the players who are school teams selected from Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and the Townsville regions. The Aaron Payne Cup – proudly supported by the Cowboys – is named after the former North Queensland hooker, himself now the head coach of the Townsville Black Hawks.
