On Friday, 180 boys of the Rice House of Ignatius Park College wore the colour of pink with a sense of pride.  Though it was the Athletics Carnival, the students were not wearing their normal blue sports uniform, nor the sprightly colour of green which is their Rice House battle colours. The 180 boys will dress to impress with the fun, bright colours of pink, pink and more pink, fun sports costumes.

 For as many years as the Pastoral Leader, Matthew Groves of Ignatius Park College, can remember, they have worn pink on the Athletes Day to fundraise for a great cause: breast cancer.

 “Our students have a good awareness that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Australia and that both men and women can develop breast cancer, although it is less common in men,” said Matthew. “The boys enjoy the spirit of competing in all the athletic events, whilst cladding themselves in anything with pink tones.  From glasses, hats, feathers, zinc, socks, and even crazy wigs are worn with pride.”

The students of Ignatius Park College understand that the day is not about winning the race or competing, but about enjoying the banter and the camaraderie with their mates. The day, although sports focused, shines a light on an important health topic, all the while raising funds for breast cancer.  Ignatius Park College is proud to be a school that engages with important community issues, through all facets of its schooling.
