2. Mary Elliott

Her husband entrusted his heart to her Prov. 31:11

“The wife of Edmund Rice. She enters his life as a significant figure and leaves tragically four years later. Leaving Edmund a widower and father of their special daughter Mary who was born prematurely with a disability. Edmund had been very devoted to his wife Mary and felt her loss keenly.”

Loving relationships shape us. Sorrow and suffering soften his prayerful heart.

Such a tender and compassionate heart is moved with pity for others he saw around him, the poor, prisoners, and sick in the hospitals.

Edmund Rice dominates the central icon panel. The spiral is symbolic of God, the Creator. The flames represent the Holy Spirit. Rings of fire surround the haloes of Mary and the baby Jesus. Mary looks at us while Jesus has turned to look at Edmund.

The Ignatius Park College Community would like to humbly acknowledge the Wulgurukaba peoples on whose land our College is located, as well as the Bindal peoples on whose land many of us live and travel across daily. We respectfully thank the elders of this traditional land both past and present for guiding us through the journey of time to where we are today.
