Blue and White Malaria

The Blue and White Malaria Shirt is not one that is often given out, it is given to students who actively live our college values to that of the Edmund Rice Spirit and make a positive contribution and difference in the world!  One where they are not thinking only about themselves but the well-being of others.  A world where their actions move from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Both William and George current Year 12 students who through their altruistic action supported an elderly person at risk. On the way home from school, both students saw a woman with no shoes walking along the middle of the road.  They stopped to ask the women if she needed help when she stated she did not know how to get home.  William and George assisted her off the road, went to the local Night Owl, and purchased her some shoes so she wouldn’t injure her feet. The students tried to ring some nursing homes to see if any of their residents might be missing but to no avail.

The elderly women was agitated and wanted to keep walking in the middle of the road, so George sat with her to make her feel calm while William called 000 for ambulance assistance. The elderly women who had dementia wanted to move again so they walked with her to the nearest bus stop, ensuring her safety and waited with her until the ambulance arrived.  The elderly women was taken successfully back to her residence by QAS.

The actions taken by William and George reflects our call to live the Touchstones in an authentic way.

They could have said this is not my problem and drive on by, but they didn’t.

They didn’t have to buy her shoes, but they did.

They could have left her walking along the road, but they didn’t.

They didn’t have to ring the aged homes or 000 but they did.

They stopped because they cared for her safety and well-being and truly live the Iggy Park motto to Seek Truth and they were living the true understanding of Brotherhood to reach out to others.

William and George congratulations on your incredible actions recently, the entire Ignatius Park College community are extremely proud of you.

Well done!

Growing Strong Minds, Building a Brotherhood.
